Quantitative evaluation of the sheared edge of woven glass epoxy laminate after mechanical punching

Fiber-reinforced composites have a wide range of industrial applications owing to their light weight, high modulus, and good specific strength. Trimming using mechanical punching tool is the fastest way post process fiber-reinforced composites. However, quantitative analyses defects parameters are required analyze damage mechanisms achieve high-quality cut surfaces. In this study, we quantitively investigated on sheared edge woven glass epoxy laminates subjected explored correlations between these key parameters, including punch-die clearance, weave alignment angle, laminate thickness. The results demonstrate necessity considering fiber burr length dimensions cracked area simultaneously evaluate quality surface.
